Mike Gascoyne, CEO of MGI Engineering Ltd, and previous Formula One designer and engineer, met with S2 pupils at Sgoil Lionacleit during his visit to share his career journey and highlight the fantastic opportunities out there for young people wanting to enter the engineering world.
Mike engaged S2 pupils in his journey to being a world leader in engineering, starting with 27 years in Formula One running the design of racing cars and running teams in over 350 Grand Prix. Mike shared that he always wanted to be an engineer, and throughout his school years never gave up on that dream. He was honest with the group about how, at times, it was tough, but he persevered with his ambition!
MGI Engineering is passionate about encouraging young people to look at Apprenticeship pathways to start a career in engineering. He described that, alongside qualifications, future employers want to know more about extra-curricular activities are involved with, from team sports to playing musical instruments. He described that the Sgoil Lionacleit core values of integrity, ambition and perseverance, all serve young people well no matter what future career pathway they are choosing.
